Oceanside was incorporated in 1888, and is 42 square miles with a population of approximately 180,000. The City rests up against the Pacific Ocean, with pristine beaches and a near perfect blend of the California of old, the heartbeat of new shops and restaurants, hotels and parks. There are over 30 city parks, 4 community recreation centers, two municipal swim centers and one senior center. The 3.5 miles of public beaches are capped by a 1600 foot fishing pier and a 1000 slip public marina.
